must love airports for free internet facilities. =)

i strongly recommend a good vacation for all peeps not having the chance to disrupt-- that is, uh, when you do get the chance to take your leave, i.e. during block leave or after vocational training.

motherlode of books bought in san francisco at dirt-cheap prices include Rushdies' Satanic Verses, Burroughs' Queer, Vonneguts' Mother Night and Slaughterhouse-Five, Nabokov's Invitation to a Beheading, Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, Kafka's Metamorphosis, etc. etc. The fact that some of them really really cannot be found in either kino or borders does increase the satisfaction; but otherwise, am stuck halfway in Verses, Beheading and Fahrenheit. Gah too much variety.

But wonderful wonderful; didn't expect to go to san francisco city, monterrey and carmel, napa and sonoma, then up to seattle for a ball game at qwest stadium, washington for a rural retreat, and even alaska for salmon fishing and the oceans for deep sea fishing. me gosh i love my relatives in the us- makes things all so versatile with their thorough hospitality. and will not forget, clearly, ichiro/ belfre/ betancourt hitting a home run, or fishing up two 18 pound salmon at a creek in ketchikan.

lucky shits who are going overseas quite soon, never forget the great other things you should do if given the opportunity, which doubtless will arise in the course of your study.

For the class of A01A 04/05

It's hard to believe how much time has passed
Since we first met over cinnamon rolls.
Then, we were guarded, wary of giving
Ourselves again so soon to new strangers.
Yet as days rolled to weeks and on to months,
We grew to love this class with all its quirks.
We studied hard but we partied harder!
Who would have thought two years could sweep us by?
Our time together was richer for its
Brevity, each shared memory a gift.
Yet all too soon, present fades to past tense.
Now as we scatter, each to his own path,
May that past not be a cause for regret.
Instead, let it remind us that whither
We wander, these friends keep us in their thoughts,
Awaiting tidings of our safe return.
Time continues to refine our friendships,
Like aging wine of exquisite vintage.
Till we meet again, we will still remain
Part of 1A - in a class of our own.

Guys and Gals! In a bid to reignite this class blog (well, actually, it wasn't ever really 'ignited' in the first place), we're supposed to update each other periodically here. ESPECIALLY those people who are going overseas (like Tommy... and, uh, the whole bunch of girls) -- update so that you can instill in our NSF minds some forward looking thoughts.

Of course, as for us NSFs, I presume we could all post on our various existences; just so for comparison, if you will. It's nice to know the various degrees of training we must go through in this phase of life.

Anyhow, Kay Hwee/ Ian, post the fricking poem!! Hahahahaha

i have decided to post on this blog - mainly because my blog's been dead for awhile, but also because i'm engaging in a shameless exercise of self-advertisement. having watched ian painstakingly craft his poetry over the last week, i have decided to go one up by writing a poem in 15 minutes - one that is also undoubtedly superior in sophistication and technique (not to mention language) ^^

Wankers

Who can stand all those bloody wankers?
They who whinge and whine without recess
Making all thought impossible but how
And where and when you want to stuff them.

I know your life isn't all flowers and fun.
But hell, no one's is! Be thankful -
Not so much that you're whole-limbed and God loves you
(after all I can't stand bloody evangelical Christians too)
But that you haven't been kicked in the arse for being one.

So while you sit in your chair and bemoan your ugly hair,
Realise that time passes you by while you stone and you sag.
What'd you expect? Quit complaining that
You can't find the meaning of life in your next Gucci handbag.

yo peeps!

as you may or may not know mingyong and i have devised a brilliantly fooooolhardy plan which involves us trotting 42 km around singapore. the route is designed to mimic the migration patterns of north australian kingfishers and has the capability to fell a thirty ton elephant on steroids. as mingyong and i have not as yet determined whether we possess the unbounded stamina required for such a trying course-- i.e. we are utterly, totally, absolutely, god-forsakenly unprepared-- we have no idea whether the plan will go successfully enough. Of course, this is the cue for you guys to start clapping openly and naysaying under your breath, but damn it, you guys gotta give it to us for being the first (and most possibly the last) people silly enough to think a full marathon could be run without prior bleed-your-guts-out preparation.

the run should be next weekend-- except that i haven't confirmed with mingyong yet-- but as soon as we do get a fixed date we shall shout it to posterity at large. yes, that is the extent of our unpreparedness.

i have a deep suspicion that this voyage into the anaerobic unknown will end with me spreadeagled across a traffic junction and mingyong carrying the water supply through the entirety of 42 km. good proposition but nonetheless i hope no potentially immobilizing disaster occurs such that we proceed as fast as two blind asthmatic men with three legs. sigh.
